Princess Lily - A book series for children with cancer
When we were told our daughter would need many years of treatment and would likely lose her hair at some point, my husband and I started looking for books to help her with what she would be going through. She was 1 and we were disappointed to find there are not many children’s books on cancer.
Alice is now 2 and loves Disney princesses, as I am sure many girls and boys do. She watches the movies’, TV shows, reads the books and loves dressing up like them. While watching Alice one day I realized how amazing it would be if she had a princess like her. A princess who has cancer, loses her hair and is going through similar situations but in a enchanted world full of adventure. Princess Lily was created.
In the first book of the series, Princess Lily Earns her Beads, Lily wakes up one day feeling sick. When the healers cannot figure out what is wrong with her, Lily finds herself on a journey of healing to the enchanted forest. But she can find the bravery she needs to start treatment?
My daughter loved the fact that Princess Lily has a port just like her and needs to have chemotherapy too. This is the perfect book for children undergoing cancer treatment, or with friends doing the same, this book gently guides through the process of diagnosis and early treatment in a way that will offer comfort, security….and bravery.

There is a big need for books about cancer – especially in children’s hospitals and with childhood cancer charities. Representation is so important. I love this. My older brother had multiple brain tumors when he was in 3rd grade, and we didn’t know anyone else who experienced it. He would have loved a book like this.
